Your 3 Wishes for Our Church
Every once in a while, it’s good to stop what we’re going, step back from what we’re paying attention to, and look up– at the big sky above.
And while you’re looking up– take a deep breath. Maybe take a short or long walk. By yourself. Think back on the year– but only for a little while. Then think of what you want to make happen in the coming year.
Your friends and family will change, and get a little older. You may not notice yourself changing, but you’ll get a little older, hopefully a little wiser. You may set some goals for yourself– hopefully not too many.
So, what do you want to make happen in the coming year? And who might you enlist to help out? How might you volunteer to help someone else reach their goals?
And what can we do together? As a church?
It always amazes me. Every year– your generosity: $38,000 from Copperfield folks, $86,000 from Stafford folks, and just shy of a half a million dollars from Museum District folks. Those are annual pledges. Your generosity pays rent, utilities, staff, programming– and all for what?
To live out your values of promoting love & acceptance, extending Unitarian Universalism, creating caring community, advancing justice, and nourishing spirituality.
And so now– at the wheel of life turns again– we pause and reflect for a moment. Soon, it will be time to hold hands and jump into the next chapter of our life together.
Both Copperfield and Stafford folks are planning to move to a new location. And Museum District folks are planning on searching for a new assistant minister. All that costs money. More than we have now. How much more?
Our goal for our Copperfield and Stafford campuses is a 5% increase. That means some folks will raise closer to a 10% increase from last year, while others will manage less. That increase will help pay for the moves, and all the little things that go along with moving to a new house.
Our goal for the Museum District campus is a 10% increase. That sounds like a lot. That’s about $40,000. Why so much? To take our assistant minister position to the next level. You can read more about that here.
In the meantime, I encourage you to think along the lines of this year’s canvass theme: what are your three wishes for our church? –Daniel
